I heard Mark Driscoll answer this question about the trinity in the Old Testament and had this very interesting answer about Targum Neofiti. I checked some other places and found some confirmation on what he said. Here's the short video segment of this very interesting assertion: http://youtube.com/watch?v=U6mVLmSMRMU I found this on a Jews for Jesus site: The Pre-existing Word John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2 He was in the beginning with God.3 All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. John 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. The ancient Jewish Aramaic translation of Genesis 1:1, as found in "Targum Neofiti," which dates before Yeshua was born reads as follows, "In the beginning, with wisdom (hebrew Khokhmah), the Son and Memra of the L...
Last week’s class was about whether God does evil like ordering genocide or approving of slavery. Today’s class deals with the question “Don’t Christians do evil. The rise of the New Atheists and a lot of backlash against Christians came about out of the Islamic 9/11 attacks, strangely enough. The atheists looked at the threat of Islamic fundamentalism and jumped to the knee jerk conclusion that all religions are harmful . Hence the title of Christopher Hitchens ’ book “God is Not Great – How Religion Poisons Everything.” Christopher Hitchens lambasts Christians, Catholics, Muslims and more in his book. He doesn’t limit his ire to Muslims at all, but how many Amish terrorists have you heard of? Still, to his credit he has done a great deal help a fellow author, Salmon Rushdie, who has a death sentence on his head from an Islamic Fatwa placed on him because of his book, The Satanic Verses. That book was referring to the questions Muh...
How do you feel if someone is criticizing the Bible and claims lots of errors and then you find out they've never read it for themselves? That cuts both ways. If you are going to criticize the Quran to a Muslim it would give you credibility if you've read it at least. James White has a blog posting on AOMIN.org about what the Quran says about Jesus. You may feel overwhelmed thinking about reading the entire Quran but if you read the few Surahs that reference Jesus then you'll be able to at least say to a Muslim: "I've read what the Quran says about Jesus, written over six hundred years after the fact. I believe there are problems with it. I entreat you to read the gospels to see what eye witnesses wrote about Jesus, the Prophet Isa, within a few decades of the events."
